Fans will miss an episode of "Criminal Minds" this week, as the CBS crime drama series is on a break. When the show returns, it will bring yet another distressing episode, featuring a child abduction case.

As stated in its official synopsis, the Joe Mantegna-directed episode 17, titled "Sandman," will take the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) to Wichita, Kansas, where parents face their greatest nightmare of having their children abducted. These children are taken away from their homes by the unsub while their unsuspecting parents are asleep.

According to showrunner Erica Messer, who revealed to TVLine, the Sandman sprinkles sands in the eyes of his victims. What's more disturbing is that Messer shared that that's not the worst part of his modus operandi. Messer can only describe that the episode is "pretty brutal" but, at the same time, "amazing."

Elsewhere in the episode, Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) will continue figuring out who's behind his abduction. In the previous episode, Moore's character almost died from serious injuries after he was tortured by a group of thugs. This story arc has not ended just yet, as he will continue to pursue the real mastermind in next week's episode.

Meanwhile, Aisha Tyler, who plays FBI forensic psychologist, Tara Lewis will also return in the next episode. Tara was last seen in episode 13, "The Bond," where she went off to prison to interview serial killers for research.

She will return in the next episode, as seen in the first-look photos from CBS. She will be going with Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) to investigate the case. The unsub is also revealed to be an odd character, who seems to have a penchant for hourglasses.

"Sandman," which marks the 250th episode of the series, will end on a cliffhanger and the story will move on to the next episode, titled "Beautiful Disaster", which was directed by Gubler, Messer said.

Catch "Criminal Minds" next week on Wednesday, Mar. 16, at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
