'Criminal Minds' season 11 Derek Morgan's departure: Shemar Moore explains why he left the series

Fans were shocked when "Criminal Minds'" Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) wrapped up in episode 18 of the crime drama series. Moore has confirmed that he is indeed leaving the show to find a new challenge.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Moore said that leaving was a "weird experience." After spending 11 years with the cast and crew that he had a close bond with, he felt weird walking away from the show. He added, "But I did it on my terms and in the right way."
He also revealed that he already shot his last scene more than a month ago and has been spending his newfound free time watching the episodes.
He also shared his doubts when he started playing the role Derek on "Criminal Minds." He did not understand why there was another cop show in a sea of 100 plus cop shows. However, he and the other cast members found out that "Criminal Minds" was "a different type of show."
"There were so many doubters, and 11 years and 251 episodes later, I'm very proud," he said. "It's nice to exhale now. I feel really at peace with the fact that I left it all out on the field."
On his beginnings and transitions, Moore acknowledge that starting his career on "The Young and the Restless" gave him a confidence boost and made him feel that he has a place in Hollywood. He admitted his start made him popular, however, he also wanted to prove that he could act. After starring in "Criminal Minds," viewers saw him handling a drama without taking his shirt off.
He added, "'Criminal Minds' was college, and now I'm ready for grad school and the next step."
Moore posted a video on Instagram of his emotional farewell and thank you message to the audience, fans of the show, and his supporters.
