'Crash Bandicoot' reboot update: Sony denies game in the works
Despite a loyal fan following and some hints thrown into the mix, it looks like a "Crash Bandicoot" reboot won't be happening after all. Sony has reportedly denied that a reboot of the popular game is in the works. However, they are aware of the high demand.
Rumors of a "Crash Bandicoot" reboot have been circulating online for months now, but the speculations were amplified when Lex Lang, the voice of Dr. Neo Cortex in the game, dropped a seemingly huge hint in the form of a Facebook post. The Internet subsequently went into a spiral following the status update.
"This week I have been asked to resurrect three different characters that I voiced from 3 different games gone by. A doctor, a devil, and a droid/AI," Lang teased. The post has since been deleted, but the folks at NeoGAF were able to capture a screenshot of the reveal. Needless to say, the damage has been done.
Further "hints" supported the idea of a "Crash Bandicoot" remake. Cinema Blend reasons out that certain elements of Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4" offers up clues that point to the development of a reboot. The biggest one came in the form of Nathan, the game's lead, playing a game of "Crash Bandicoot" with his wife Elena.
Despite all of the evidence that seem to point towards a "Crash Bandicoot" remake, Sony remains adamant that such a project is not in development. Additionally, there is the issue of the game's rights. Activision still reportedly holds ownership over "Crash Bandicoot," which means Sony will have to shake a few hands before a reboot sees the light of day.
However, it is important to note that a remake of the popular game is not completely impossible. Sony may still opt to pursue the project, perhaps with Activision in tow, since it will considerably be more expensive to produce it as an exclusive PlayStation game.
