'Code Black' season 2: Show returns without Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville

(Code Black / Facebook)"Code Black" season 2 returns without Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville.

Three months after the medical drama "Code Black" wrapped up its first season, it was fortunately renewed for a second season. However, its renewal was not welcomed by its fans with open arms because two of the main leads have been let go.

Fans were delighted by the news that "Code Black" has been given a green light to return for another season. However, the medical drama returns without Neal (Raza Jaffrey) and Christa (Bonnie Somerville). Last Saturday, the executive producer and creator Michael Seitzman answered numerous fan questions on Twitter.

Seitzman admitted that it was very hard for them to let go of the two actors. However, he remains ecstatic with the new characters they will be introducing next season. Despite the changes in the cast lineup, he wanted fans to refrain from blaming someone. According to TV Line, he said, "Decisions like this aren't easy and are very complex."

He also stood by the decision of the show to promote recurring characters Will (Boris Kodjoe) and Heather (Jillian Murray) to regulars. He responded to one fan that the mentioned characters were introduced later in season one, and they were also assigned in the operating room and not the emergency room.

As for the episode order of season 2, Seitzman confirmed, "[We're] told we're slotted for 22." Also, it is slated to premiere on Sept. 21.

In another interview with Deadline, Seitzman revealed what plotline could be expected in season 2. "The concept of the show is for each season to begin on the first day for incoming freshman residents, just as in real life there is a cycle of residents coming in and residents either graduating or moving on," Seitzman said.

He also added that the fictional hospital will also become densely populated and they even hired an average of 800 extras per episode. Plus, they hired additional characters for doctors and nurses.
