Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors 2016: Is Jimmy Butler the answer to Warriors' signing of Kevin Durant?

(Reuters/Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Sports)Chicago Bulls All-Star guard Jimmy Butler might be a trade target for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are focused on re-signing franchise superstar LeBron James and perhaps veteran J.R. Smith this free agency. However, they might respond to the Golden State Warriors' acquisition of Kevin Durant by trading for Chicago Bulls All-Star guard Jimmy Butler.

Butler was surprisingly dragged to the trade rumor mill this off-season. He is seen as the franchise's next superstar after Derrick Rose but this did not save him from being a frequent topic in speculations.

However, the Bulls reportedly removed Butler from the trade market after they added veteran and championship-winning guards Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade this free agency.

But, it looks like Butler's absence in trade talks is not going to last long as he is now rumored to be targeted by the Cavs.

So far, the Cavaliers are unlikely to complete a trade since their attention is on inking their remaining unsigned players. Unfortunately for the reigning champions, Durant's addition to the Dubs linked them to rumors on how they will answer their rivals' massive signing.

One of these is acquiring Butler via trade which may be a great way to respond to Golden State.

As of the moment, the Bulls are not expected to deal away Butler especially since they already have a formidable trio that might be enough to bring them back to the postseason. But if the Cavaliers can put up an enticing offer, another All-Star might be heading to "The Land."

Butler's potential addition to the Cavs make them strong favorites to take the Eastern Conference. He would be part of a new Big Three in Cleveland, together with James and point guard Kyrie Irving.

Although for now, it seems the Cavs are not planning to counter the Warriors and Durant, and are prioritizing players who helped them win their first title last season.
