Cleveland Browns roster news 2016: Robert Griffin III seals job
The Cleveland Browns now have a re-emerging player as their starting quarterback for the 2016 season as Robert Griffin III, who was seen as the favorite, has gotten the job.
According to the New York Times, the announcement proclaiming Griffin as the starting quarterback was made this Monday.
ESPN had earlier reported that Browns head coach Hue Jackson was near a decision on who their starting passer for the 2016 season would be and Griffin "appears to be on track" to receive the nod, mainly because of the 26-year-old's impressive performances in training camp while competing with the veteran Josh McCown.
Griffin has now turned the tables around after not seeing action in the 2015 season, his last year with the Washington Redskins.
Despite Griffin sealing the role, he still preaches hard work and perseverance.
"It's just about coming out every day and proving it. You know, we want to make sure that everybody earns their spot, earns their keep, and that's everybody's goal every time they step on the field. They want to put their best foot forward and show Coach what they can do, and he believes in all of us," Griffin explained, according to ESPN.
Griffin also stated, "It's a lot of fun every day to just go out and prove it."
Ahead of the 2016 National Football League (NFL) regular season, the Browns will likely feature their starting quarterback when they open the pre-season this Friday versus the Green Bay Packers.
Aside from the Packers, Cleveland will also take on the Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chicago Bears before they begin their true campaign on September 11 versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
Griffin entered the NFL as the second overall pick in the 2012 draft. In his rookie year, playing for the Redskins, he was selected to his only Pro Bowl so far and was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Unfortunately following that, it was a downhill slope for him.
Now with the Browns, Griffin has another shot to again be one of the best passers in the league.
