'Chicago P.D.' season 3 episode 4 spoilers: case of criminal who targets cops for revenge touches a nerve with Voight
"Chicago P.D." recently aired the third episode of season three, "Actual Physical Violence." Based on final TV ratings, the show garnered a respectable 1.5 rating and 6.6 million viewers that night. "Chicago P.D." was also able to maintain its viewers from last week.
In next Wednesday's episode, "Debts of the Past," Voight and the rest of the P.D. are on the hunt for a criminal who was released from prison on a technicality. The felon has been targeting cops as a form of revenge.
After the criminal attacks Voight and Olinsky, Voight uncovers the identity of the criminal as James Beckett. Voight put away Beckett 15 years ago for triple homicide.
Voight gets emotional as his team members have difficulty tracking him down. "The sooner he is in a box or a bag, the better. Am I clear?" he says.
Meanwhile, in the district, Atwater accidentally spills details regarding Ruzek's past that disturbs Burgess. Platt also assigns Burgess and Roman on a high-society dognapping case.
Matt Olmstead, executive producer of the show, also revealed that Voight will be at the forefront of the three-way crossover involving "Chicago P.D.," "Chicago Fire," and "Chicago Med." The crossover episode is scheduled to air on January.
According to Olmstead, the special episode will center on Voight's past, specifically his "backstory with his late wife".
Voight's wife had died years before his first appearance on "Chicago Fire," however; he has not really had the chance to deal with the circumstances of her death. It seems that Voight remains deeply affected and haunted by the events surrounding her death.
The death of Voight's wife has also deeply affected Lindsay. Given that her relationship with her mother, Bunny, has always been unreliable and problematic, she looked up to Voight's wife. She saw her as "the perfect model for who she wanted to be as a woman."
The crossover episode will give a glimpse into the relationship between Voight and his wife who was "his one love, true love, only love."
Season three of "Chicago P.D." airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
