'Chicago Fire' season 3 episode 19 spoilers: episode will be pilot for 'Chicago Med'; fireman suffers life threatening injuries in chemical leak

Several reports indicated that episode 19 of season three of "Chicago Fire" will be the first pilot episode of "Chicago Med". A spin-off show like "Chicago PD", its medical counterpart tells the story of the staff and patients at a hospital in Chicago.
In "I Am Apocalypse", viewers will see the fire department tackling the threat of an airborne disease in a hospital. Latin Post reports that situation becomes worse when a patient in the hospital goes on a suicide mission. The so-called patient is armed with a grenade that contains a deadly airborne disease. Attempting to stop the deranged man, a member of the firehouse department is severely wounded and faces life-threatening injuries. A member of the team jumps on top of the grenade-toting man in order to prevent him from triggering the explosion. Who this member is remains unknown and may be a surprise to several audience members.
Due to the explosion, the hospital is on lockdown and doctors donning Hazmat suits must determine the severity of the virus. It isn't clear if the member who risks his life from the fire department survives or not.
It seems like a very interesting episode, one that "Chicago Fire" fans should not miss. Blending firehouse drama with a medical one certainly makes for a fascinating episode. Additionally, it will definitely be power-packed with surprises since it serves as a pilot for another show. CaterMatt reports that if the viewer's ratings are strong for the episode and it garners considerable critical acclaim, they may pick it up as a full-fledged show in May.
TVLine reports that the pilot episode stars "Fargo" star Oliver Platt, "The Walking Dead" alum Laurie Holden, "Law & Order" star S. Epatha Merkerson, former "America's Next Top Model" contestant Yaya DaCosta and "Shameless" actor Nick Gehlfuss. The episode airs on Tuesday, April 7 on NBC at 10 p.m. ET.
