'Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare' gameplay, news: Free update brings in new maps this week; more holiday freebies teased

(Activision)Activision will release six new maps, new game modes, and more holiday-themed contents for free starting next week.

As promised, "Call of Duty" publisher Activision will bring in the remaining six maps for "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" through a free update this week. More than that, Activision is in the spirit of giving as they are teased to bring in more freebies as the holidays approach.

On Thursday, Activision announced their jam-packed updates and additional content to come this month. Gamers can recall that when "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" was released last month, it contained 10 remastered playable campaign maps out of the 16 total maps for the game.

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" brings in the familiar campaign maps which were released in 2007 but were revamped to give high-definition gaming through the latest consoles.

In the coming days, players can get their hands on the next batch of maps. The Bloc map features Soviet-style buildings and environment while the Countdown map is set in a missile launch area. The map Pipeline features surroundings that are based on an abandoned rail yard in Ukraine. The Showdown map will bring the players to a two-level building in a courtyard situated in the desert.

The Strike map features one of the most open space environments in a very urban setting, providing more buildings for cover and vantage points. Lastly, the Wet Work map is defined as having two bridges in the middle while players might need night vision equipment since it features a dark environment all throughout the campaign. The newest trailer for the game gives a glimpse of these upcoming maps.

Aside from the six maps, this week's updates will also bring in two new game modes namely the Hardpoint and Gun Game. A week after the free update, Activision is also set to release a Christmas-themed game update that will bring in the remastered Winter Crash campaign map.

"Later this month, players will find a Genesis Holiday map waiting for them as the Headquarters for the Division of Mechanical Evolution gets a festive new look. Plus there will be a 24/7 Genesis Holiday playlist," Activision added.

Activision will also launch their "12 Days of Winter" holiday event where freebies will just keep coming for players from Dec. 21 to the first day of 2017.

The free update with six remastered maps and two new game modes will go live on Tuesday, Dec. 13 while the remastered holiday-themed Winter Crash map will follow a week after on Dec. 20.
