Brooklyn Nets trade rumors 2016: Team awaiting perfect offer for Brook Lopez?
Brook Lopez leaving the Brooklyn Nets might happen sooner than expected, as the franchise is rumored to be close to dealing him away and is only looking for the "best offer."
In a report by SportsBlog, ESPN's Marc Stein was cited as he explained that the Nets are just waiting. When they find a proposal which best fits the team, it will be time to pull the trigger. It was also mentioned that one executive thinks the big man is on his way out of Brooklyn before this season's trade deadline.
The speculations about trading Lopez started to emerge a few weeks back. It was suggested as the best move for the Nets to accomplish at this point. This is because the 28-year-old still has value which will help the team acquire talents needed to build a competitive unit once they move on from him.
As of the moment, the Nets are yet to confirm that they are aiming to part ways with Lopez.
Lopez is leading Brooklyn with Jeremy Lin sidelined as the latter continues to recover from injury. Along with this, he may also be increasing his value with him showing improvements to his game as the 2016-17 regular season rolls on.
This season, Lopez is proving that he is more than just a post player. The former 10th overall pick from Stanford is hitting outside shots as well, specifically three-pointers.
Lopez, in eight games (all starts), is averaging 19.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, one assist, with 1.6 blocks. If this goes on for him, maybe the Nets will have to reconsider sending him to a different team. But if his splendid performance continues but they still struggle to attain success, then the speculations might materialize.
Currently, the Nets are a win away from .500 as they hold a 4-5 record for the ninth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
