Premiering on New Year's Day at 9 p.m. in UP network, "Bringing Up Bates," or previously known as "United Bates of America" returned with a huge bang, ranking 16th in the most-watched prime time shows. The show about Gil and Kelly Bates and their 19 children proved that it can still appeal to their target demographic with the happenings and stories that go around their lives in Lake City, Tennessee.
UP Network's CEO surely felt elated over the show's success at the start of the year, giving a much-needed boost for the network.
"I can't think of a better way for UP to start 2015 than having viewers embrace 'Bringing Up Bates' and this remarkable family," expressed Charley Humbard ,UP's president & CEO, in a press release reported by Zap2It.
The 49-year-old patriarch Gil, and 47-year-old Kelly run a tree-cutting business while at the same time never neglecting the values they believe should be at the heart of the family, especially one as big as theirs. Having to raise children with ages from 2 to 25, the couple feel they are one big happy family. Though trying to live a simple and quiet life on a farm, the Bates are beginning to be affected by the modernity of this fast-paced world.
The new season features all new 13 episodes that will see different kinds of transitions for all of them. For one, Gil and Kelly will celebrate the first birthday of their first grandchild with their eldest, Zach. Bradley Gavin Bates finally turned one after Zach's wife, Whitney, gave birth last year. 24-year-old Michaella will also get a treat from the parents as they allow her mate, Brandon Keilen, to stay with them for the holidays, signaling the start of a serious relationship.
