Boston Celtics trade rumors 2016: James Young to be dealt soon?
Perhaps the Boston Celtics is the team that has the best trade assets in the National Basketball Association (NBA), that is why they are present in almost every rumor. And the player that owns the best chance of leaving the franchise via swap is guard James Young.
In a report by ClutchPoints, it was mentioned that as of the moment, the C's have 16 players with guaranteed contracts. However, they might want to trim that number, so they need to decide who will be let go - likely via trade - and Young is an option.
The Celtics selected Young 17th overall in the 2014 NBA draft. There were some big expectations from him but for two seasons in Boston, he is yet to impress.
From 2014-2016, Young only saw action in a total of 60 regular season games for the Celtics. His career-averages are 2.2 points and 1.1 rebounds per contest. With those numbers, it is inevitable that the 21-year-old's stay in Boston is soon coming to an end. However, ClutchPoints stated that he still has the chance to prove himself when training camp opens as he competes for a roster spot.
But if the Celtics opt to deal Young away, he will likely be a part of a package deal, because alone, he may not have the value for them to acquire the players they desire.
This means another player/s, especially the younger ones, will be included in a potential swap. Future draft picks might also be sacrificed by Boston.
For now, the Celtics roster looks good on paper with All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas expected to lead them to another successful run. Helping him will be former All-Star center Al Horford, who was signed in free agency from the Atlanta Hawks.
The last two seasons were great for the Celtics and they are aiming for a better run in the 2016-17 season.
