'Boruto: Naruto the Movie 2' cancelled? rumors plague the sequel
"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" was an unexpected hit with fans worldwide, which is probably why a sequel was given the green light. A second "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" certainly got fans excited. However, reports are now saying that the second installment might not see the light of day after all.
At first, news that "Boruto: Naruto the Movie 2" was delayed because of a conflict of schedules circulated online, but a glimmer of hope existed in the form of a rumored release period which put it sometime in spring of this year. That particular rumor also suggested that the movie might come out after new "Boruto"-themed items are released. A delay was already bad enough, but now comes the news that the movie has been cancelled altogether.
The studio reportedly has a lot on its plate, with another movie and a manga currently in their lineup. The other movie, "The True Legend of Itachi," will focus on the character Itachi Shinden. The film will apparently be split into two parts—"The True Legend of Itachi: Glory" and "The True Legend of Itachi: Dark Knight."
The first film will revolve around Itachi's youth and his aspiration of becoming a Hokage—the first from their clan. It will follow him throughout his time at the Ninja Academy. Meanwhile, the second film will be darker as it will take on Itachi's murderous spree of the Uchiha clan, except for his younger brother Sasuke.
The cancellation of the film, however, is just a rumor and nothing has been officially confirmed. So there might be hope yet. At the very least, fans can look forward to a new "Boruto" manga that will reportedly roll out on May 9 and will be issued on a monthly basis, unlike the weekly format that the "Naruto" manga adopted. Another one-shot special from manga artist Masashi Kishimoto is also expected on April 25.
