'Blue Bloods' season 7 episode 6 preview and spoilers: Whistleblower claims abuse of power in the NYPD

(Facebook/CBSBlueBloods)Frank faces a whistleblower who has made some serious allegations against the NYPD.

"Blue Bloods" is still pulling in good numbers, despite being seven seasons old. The series has certainly proven that it knows what works in its demographic. But is it enough to merit another season?

The con was on in the previous episode of "Blue Bloods" season 7 as a community activist discovered that her family lied to her about being a US citizen, while Eddie (Vanessa Ray) realized that her 16-year-old psychic was just a really good con artist. The episode ended with the Reagan family having another enlightening dinner discussion about how most people are just hustling someone else.

Unfortunately, Frank (Tom Selleck) has bigger problems to deal with other than con artists in episode 6. The police commissioner will apparently find himself facing a whistleblower within the NYPD's ranks, who claims to have evidence that abuse of power is happening within the organization. Meanwhile, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) look into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the case of a woman who died after being hit by a car.

A trailer for the upcoming episode, "Whistleblowers," teases that Danny might be taking his new case personally. The clip starts with a young woman being hit by a car, which Danny seems to have witnessed as he rushes to help her. One scene shows the detective at the hospital talking to the coroner who expresses her surprise that the victim is still functioning. As the doctor explains, "no one parties this hard by choice," hinting that the victim is under the influence. Danny is later shown searching a locker and finding a packet of drugs. A montage of scenes shows the detective using any means, even violent ones, to bring justice to the victim.

"Blue Bloods" has been putting out interesting cases this season. While none has really pushed the envelope, it's relevant enough to keep things interesting. This has ensured that fans remain happy and glued to the series. Despite that, there have been rumblings that the series is facing cancellation due to budget constraints. Some reports have pegged Selleck's salary as taking the bulk of the budget, with some sites even hinting that the actor might have to leave in order to save the show.

Episode 6 of "Blue Bloods" season 7 is set to be aired on CBS on Oct. 28 at 10 p.m.
