'Blame!' anime news: Netflix releases film trailer

Netflix has released the trailer for the anime feature film of "Blame!"
The film, which was made by Polygon Pictures, is based on the manga series of the same title released in 1998. It was written and drawn by artist Tsutomu Nihei, who is also behind "Biomega" and "Knights of Sidonia."
The production of the "Blame!" anime will be the second time that Nihei, who received the Comic-Con International Inkpot award in 2016, will be working with director Hiroyuki Seshita. Their previous collaboration was on the anime adaptation of "Knights of Sidonia."
Netflix acquired the rights to the film adaptation of "Blame!" and is currently working to release it and "Knights of Sidonia" high dynamic range (HDR) format.
In a press statement, David Lee, the vice president of international originals of Netflix, said, "We're incredibly delighted to work with Polygon Pictures in bringing the latest Netflix original anime, 'Blame!,' to fans worldwide."
"We look forward to bringing the best of original anime to our members and continuing to work with the top creators in the industry," he continued.
"Blame!" is a cyberpunk manga series first published on Kodansha Comics and ran for 10 volumes. It is set on a dystopian future where machines rule, with the remaining humans attempting to survive in the Megastructure, a labyrinth that features danger in every turn.
The lead character of the manga is Killy, a stoic and mysterious loner who tries to save humanity from disappearing completely in the dystopian setting. He uses a weapon called the Gravitational Beam Emitter, a type of gun which he uses to fight against androids, silicon-based lifeforms, and even other people in that chaotic world. He attempts to stop the enemy from taking over humanity by looking for individuals with Net Terminal Genes, which them to hack into the system to access the Netsphere.
"Blame!" will be released worldwide on Netflix on May 20.
