'Black Sails' season 3 spoilers: Zach McGowan talks about Vane's death

In "Black Sails," viewers should expect that not all of the much-loved pirates will manage to live through the battle. Zach McGowan, who portrays Captain Charles Vane, was a beloved character but fans, unfortunately, had to see him go in episode "XXVII."
Vane has cheated death countless times and it's devastating for his fans to see him die, even though the real captain did die by hanging.
McGowan recently spoke with Collider about how his departure from the show affected him and what's next now that he's gone.
When asked how he felt about his character making the exit, McGowan shared that it's a bittersweet feeling for him. If there's one thing that McGowan learned from the show is that he was able to play the part greatly such that he has no problem playing a somewhat similar character in his new movie.
"I'm making a movie right now where I'm not playing that different of a character, and I'm having a blast doing it. I get to bring parts of myself to these roles and have fun doing it," McGowan said.

When asked if he was satisfied with the way his character made the exit, the actor said he couldn't have imagined something better. "Oh, yeah! I couldn't have asked for a better arc and for a better story to be told through a character I was playing."
McGowan also shared to Entertainment Weekly about how there were different accounts of how the real Captain Vane died. He mentioned that in some accounts, the captain died without having to say his last words, while in others, it said that he was able to, but a bit different than what he said on the Starz series, "Get on with it, mother******."
But the last words didn't matter much for McGowan because what mattered a lot was that his character didn't say sorry for the things he did.
Vane may have been gone, but it's really not the end of it and McGowan is happy about that. "There's sadness and celebration to the fact that, even facing death, he couldn't be broken from what he believes in," he told Collider. He believes that his character's death will have a major impact on the rest of the cast.
