'Bates Motel' season 5 cast, latest updates: Season 5 trailer gives fans a glimpse of Rihanna as Marion Crane
Singer-actress Rihanna has made her first appearance as Marion Crane in the psychological drama "Bates Motel" in A&E's recently released teaser. Season 5 of the TV series is premiering this month and will be its final installment, much to the disappointment of fans.
The season 5 trailer shows Marion Crane arriving in the motel looking drenched from the unseemly weather. She then asks Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore), "Can I get a room?" In the succeeding scenes, Norman is shown looking through a peephole in what is believed to be Marion's motel room.
Marion is an iconic character in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "Psycho" that came out in the 1960s. The original Marion was played by actress Janet Leigh who popularized the infamous shower scene where she is killed by the extremely troubled Norman. It is believed that "Bates Motel" will recreate that famous shower scene with Rihanna. Show executives, however, have yet to confirm if they will indeed take that direction in the TV series.
Also seen in the video are Norman's mother Norman (Vera Farmiga), Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell), Dylan (Max Thieriot), and Caleb (Kenny Johnson). "The Walking Dead" former cast member Austin Nichols, who will play Sam Loomis, however, is not seen in the trailer. Nichols' character in the AMC TV series was killed in its midseason finale. News of his participation in "Bates Motel" season 5 followed thereafter.
Meanwhile, the season 5 synopsis reveals that the upcoming installment will be set two years after Norma's untimely demise and will show Norman to be a grown man but living a double standard life. When around other residents of the White Pine Bay community, Norman appears to be a happy person who is easy to get along with. Unknown to many, he struggles with constant blackouts when he is alone at home as "Mother" threatens to take over his mind.
"Bates Motel" season 5 premieres on Monday, Feb. 20, 10 p.m. EDT on A&E.
