'Avatar 2' updates: Cameron spills tidbits of 'top secret' sequel

Fans of the 2009 top-grossing film "Avatar" have waited long enough for the continuation of Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Jake Sully's (Sam Worthington) story reportedly set to a December 2017 premiere. Director James Cameron has been very secretive about the movie's progress, choosing to stay mum on any spoiler.
This time, though, he graciously gave some tidbits about the current status of the film. He shared with Associated Press at the premiere for "The Dark Horse" (via Indiewire) that they have been busy working on the sequel's graphics compared to the first movie. Sources claim that this meant more exploration of the Na'vi world, the fictional home of Saldana's Neytiri character and her "blue" people. Cameron hinted that the movie would have more motion capture graphics, just like in animated films.
"We do performance capture work. You have to think of it more like an animated film, so it's not really shooting per se. It's a lot of performance capture work, so yeah, we're getting into that. It's top secret. Remember The Manhattan Project, did they talk about that?" he quipped.
It has been reported earlier that the award-winning director and his talented CGI team have been meeting with professional oceanographers to create an entirely believable underwater world for "Avatar 2." The place is reportedly located beneath the lands of Pandora. Rumors are also rife that they have been trying to come up with a state-of-the-art software application that will enable them to redesign new additions to the old Pandora that previously left fans in awe.
Meanwhile, Cameron said in an old interview that the sequel would be a veritable "cornucopia" and "a treat to the eyes" as they introduce new and cultures. He emphasized, however, that the plot would still be a continuation of the story of the Na'vi people and their conflict with the humans' mission to dominate nature. If there would be no more delays, "Avatar 2" is expected to hit the cinemas in December 2017.
