After proving itself as an anime to be reckoned with in its first season, fans of "Attack on Titan" have been eagerly waiting for news as to when their favorite animation will be returning. Unfortunately, that is still a long way off as the anime is still waiting for the manga to beef up its storyline.

It has been confirmed by director, Tetsuro Araki, that the second season of "Attack on Titan" will be released in 2016. But production on the series has been put on hold and the main reason is that the producers and writers are still waiting on Hajime Isayama's manga. Apparently, the "Attack on Titan" manga is just two story arcs ahead of the anime's first season.

One question that's on the minds of viewers is whether or not the series will remain loyal to the manga. That still remains to be seen, but fans can content themselves with the rumors that have come out so far.

According to reports, Commander Erwin Smith will reportedly lose a limb next season, probably while battling a titan. This would lead to him to think that he's a liability to his team and to leave his squad. It has also been rumored that the erstwhile commander will be leading the rebellion against the king, who will be discovered as a fraud.

It will also be revealed that the real royals are the Reiss family, who counts among their ranks Krista Lenz and Historia. The family apparently has the power to transform themselves into titans like Annie and Erin.

Speaking of titans, it has been said that a new titan will be introduced next season, a titan with ape-like features and human-like intelligence.

There has also been some disturbing rumors about a major character death next season. Speculation has been rife that fan favorite Levi Ackerman will be meeting his demise in season two and that he will be killed while protecting Armin Arlert, Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman.

The upcoming season will reportedly have a "Clash of Titans" story arc going that will reveal the identities of Ymir and Krista Lenz.

With all these exciting events reportedly happening next season, fans have no recourse but be patient and wait for "Attack on Titan" season two to be released in 2016.
