'Archer' season 8 air date, spoilers: 1947-set 'Archer: Dreamland' to see Sterling Archer as a private investigator
For its past seven seasons, "Archer" was never one to shy away from unconventional themes and ideas. This time around, season 8 will see Sterling Archer and the rest of the group transported back to 1947.
The previous season ended with the fate of Archer hanging in the balance. However, for fans who were expecting an answer to the big question involving his survival, season 8 won't necessarily make that clear. According to IGN, the panel for "Archer" at the New York Comic-Con revealed that the popular animated series will be set in 1947.
Officially titled "Archer: Dreamland," it will still see all of the cast members back despite the change in time periods. They will be playing slightly altered characters with somewhat different backstories. It will see Archer as a private investigator, rather than a secret agent, as he tracks down the person who killed Woodhouse, his old partner. Lana Kane will be a lounge singer and will meet Archer for the first time in 1947.
In other news, it has been said that the show's contract extends up to season 10, but it remains unclear if there will be more beyond that. If it were up to executive producer and writer Adam Reed, season 10 would be it.
"The plan is to end 'Archer' after Season 10. I don't know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan," Reed said during a Murmur podcast. He continued to explain that seasons 8 through 10 would contain only 8 episodes each, which is shorter than that in the previous ones. He also said that he had a "brain explosion" of what the remaining seasons would look like.
"So the three seasons that are coming up are gonna be pretty different from what has come before, and they're gonna be different from each other," Reed shared.
"Archer" season 8 will premiere next year on FX.
