'Aquaman' movie spoilers: Arthur Curry to be a reluctant king and superhero
While "Aquaman" has not begun its principal photography phase yet, one can already expect that the upcoming DC and Warner Bros. movie will feature the King of the Atlantis, Aquaman (Jason Momoa), as a reluctant king and a superhero, initially.
It has been reported earlier that "Aquaman" will begin filming in Australia's Gold Coast this April. However, even before the cameras start grinding for the movie, James Wan, the movie's director, has already spilled some details on what the fans can expect from the upcoming DC and Warner Bros. movie.
According to reports, Wan has said that Arthur Curry/Aquaman will be a reluctant superhero and king at first. After all, based on the DC superhero's mythology, he will only find out that he is a half-human and half-Atlantean once he has already grown up.
Aquaman's father is a human, Thomas Curry, while his mother is the Queen of Atlantis, Atlanna. The roles are rumored to be portrayed by Temuera Morrison and Nicole Kidman, respectively.
"He's the outsider who gets pulled into this world and he kind of doesn't want to belong and he was doing his own thing. He's like a reluctant superhero, right? He's the reluctant king, basically, or would-be king," Wan said in an interview with IGN last year.
However, apart from Wan's statements, the trailer for "Justice League" also suggests that Aquaman will, indeed, be a reluctant superhero. Based on the conversation between Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) and Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in the said trailer, Aquaman turned down their invitation to be part of the group of superheroes Batman is organizing.
As promotional images for "Justice League" show that Aquaman has finally agreed to fight along with other DC superheroes, it goes without saying that he will eventually embrace his destiny to be a superhero and the King of Atlantis. Does this mean that "Aquaman" will feature the events before those of "Justice League?"
Fans can only speculate for now.
"Aquaman" is slated for an Oct. 5, 2018 release, while "Justice League" arrives in November this year.
