After the success of the freshman season of "American Crime Story," which featured the much-talked-about O.J. Simpson case, executive producer Brad Simpson revealed that the writers are now working on the events during the Hurricane Katrina devastation for the second season.

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, the EP said, "The writers' room is right now working on Katrina." He also revealed, "Yes, you'll have the famous people , and also people who weren't famous during Katrina."

The first season was praised both commercially and critically, but Simpson added that the upcoming season will be tonally and thematically different from season 1. He went on to explain that the next season will be about two things. He said, "Really it's going to be about two things, one is just the intensity of what it's like to be there on the ground, to be in the pressure cooker, but also thematically, the bigger crime — that Katrina was something that was predictable, that we weren't prepared for, but knew was going to happen."

During the panel, Simpson also revealed that the idea of tackling the events during Hurricane Katrina was writer Ryan Murphy's idea. But it did not take them much to be convinced as he and co-producer Nina Jacobson have always been fascinated about the topic. It was also a collective decision among the people involved not to be repetitive about the story the series tells. After doing the crime of the century, he said they wanted to do stories of injustice but decided it has been done number of times.

He sees the event as one that brought America together and at the same time brought to massive awareness some things the country have long known but don't want to acknowledge. One of the famous people who comes up in mind when talks of the natural disaster comes up is former president George W. Bush, but Simpson did not dwell much on him.

"American Crime Story" season 2 will return in 2017 on FX.
