Amazon 'Top Gear' news: Jeremy Clarkson's show to debut this autumn with promise of greater innovation
The triumvirate of James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson will once again be bringing back their gearhead idiosyncrasies with "Top Gear" but this time around, it will be airing on Amazon Prime.
Executive producer Andy Wilman gave his explanation on why the presenting team and the show runners will be taking in a different format route in this reworking for BBC's "Top Gear" on Amazon.
"There are three reasons really. They'll give us the freedom to make the programmes we want – and you know how we love that freedom – there's a budget to produce programmes of the quality we want and this is the future. So it's exhilarating to be part of that future," Wilman who is close friends and a long-time business partner with Clarkson was quoted in Radio Times.
It has been mentioned by Digital Spy that the middle-aged trio have been bestowed by Amazon with a mammoth financing of £4.5m to devote lavishly per episode. The reboot, which has lately been speculated to be titled "Gear Knobs," is estimated to be 60 minutes in length per episode. May, Hammond and Clarkson have been wooed by the Internet-based retailer for a 12 episode run which will be released weekly, according to the same publication.
The BBC offshoot will be a different take from its predecessor as it will encapsulate a much more innovative presentation as heated up by its new viewing environment.
"Customers told us they wanted to see the team back on screen, and we are excited to make that happen," Vice president of Amazon Prime Video EU Jay Marine was quoted saying in a July 2015 interview, also with Digital Spy.
The 55-year-old Clarkson was purported to have been involved in a physical altercation with a "Top Gear" producer last March 2015 which gave rise to his contract not being renewed. After Clarkson was booted out, May and Wilman followed suit by no longer being involved in the show.
