Amazon Kindle news: Software update introduces revamped Home Screen to e-readers this February
Amazon will be releasing a free software update for its Kindle e-readers. The update will be automatic and is expected to arrive sometime this month. The Kindle software update brings readers a revamped Home Screen that give more access to the different features of the Kindle.
Amazon has made the Home Screen more personalized. On the upper left corner, the Home Screen will now display the user's most recent books. To view all of the user's Kindle e-books, just simply tap "My Library." Users will have the option of having all their e-books displayed or just a condensed list of downloaded titles.
On the upper right hand corner of the Home Screen, the Kindle will now feature a new section called "My Reading Lists." This feature displays titles of books on user's Amazon Wish List and downloaded book samples. For Goodreads members, the reading list will also include their "Want to Read" shelf.
Amazon's Kindle software update will also help readers gain more exposure to new titles that they may find interesting.
"Readers are always looking for their next favorite book, and this update provides new ways to help you easily find new books and new authors that you're sure to love," according to Amazon.
The bottom part of the Home Screen will be dedicated to displaying book recommendations from Goodreads, friends and best-selling titles from Amazon. The list will be refreshed every time the Kindle is opened from sleep mode.
Get Book Recommendations will also feature will provide a list of titles that the user may be interested in. The list will be tailored based on the reader's favorite genres and previously read titles. If the user discovers a new book, he or she will be able to easily obtain a free sample from Amazon.
The Kindle update will also give users easy access to their most popular settings. By tapping the toolbar, users can easily put their device on airplane mode or sync their Kindle.
The Kindle Update will be available for the 2013 and 2015 Kindle Paperwhite, the 2014 Kindle Voyage and the 2014 Kindle. The software update rolls out this February, though a specific release date was not revealed.
