'24: Legacy' season premiere, cast, plot news: Kiefer Sutherland gives the spin-off the thumb of approval
Jack Bauer will be remembered as Fox picks up the spin-off series of the "24" franchise with the upcoming premiere of "24: Legacy" that will star Corey Hawkins. Hawkins, who was also part of AMC's "The Walking Dead" this season 7, revealed that Kiefer Sutherland — who originally played Bauer in "24" — supports the upcoming TV series.
"Kiefer's just been awesome," Hawkins told Entertainment Tonight. "He's the only other person who really knows what this particular journey is and the only other person that I could talk to."
In the same interview, Hawkins gave hints as to the action sequences that fans will be seeing in the upcoming show, saying, "The days are long and the stunts are real, so it is a lot." The 28-year-old actor added, "But I think, mentally, that's the thing. Literally, you have to be on 24/7."
Hawkins will paly former U.S. Army Ranger Sergeant Eric Carter who is a war veteran fresh from Afghanistan. He will take part in locating and taking down a terrorist leader. In the process of doing so, he himself becomes a target of terrorists.
At the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour earlier this month, Hawkins politely and professionally addressed a question about the cultural implications of some parts of the series.
"It's not just about his skin color, it's about his culture," Hawkins said at the TCA event. "It's about where he grew up. It's about what does it mean, what are the alliances growing in Washington, D.C. southeast, where I happen to personally have grown up. Growing up, we never got to see a hero who didn't have superpowers who looked like us, that you could kind of look to and say, 'I could be that guy one day. I could be a patriot. I could be a soldier. I could work in the government and be a hero.'"
Joining Hawkins in the cast is veteran actress Miranda Otto as Rebecca Ingram, Jimmy Smits as John Donovan, Charlie Hofheimer as Marcus Grimes, Raphael Acloque as Jadalla Bin-Khalid, Dan Bucatinsky as Andy, Anna Diop as Nicole Carter, Coral Pena as Gia, and Teddy Sears as Keith Mullins, to name a few.
"24: Legacy" will premiere with back-to-back episodes on Feb. 5, Sunday, and Feb. 6, Monday, on Fox.
