2017 Volkswagen Phideon news: Luxury sedan previews new design language for Volkswagen's upcoming high-end sedans; arriving in China later this year
Volkswagen has introduced the 2017 Phideon at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The luxury sedan with innovative features and technologies will be launched for the Chinese market later this year.
The 2017 Volkswagen Phideon is based on the C Coupe GTE Concept and is built using the new Modular Longitudinal Matrix (MLB) platform. In terms of design, the Phideon comes with elegant and dynamic design cues. The luxury sedan's name was also inspired by Fides, the Roman goddess of fidelity. The sedan comes with sporty proportions, a striking long bonnet, an elongated cabin and a flowing layout.
The sedan's front fascia features a wide and high chrome grille, dual LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. The distinct front fascia also previews the design language of Volkswagen's future range of high-end sedans.
"The new Phideon, with its equally powerful and charismatic front end, its flowing and yet precisely drawn lines and the exceedingly dynamic proportions, exudes premium style, while the Phideon's progressive design corresponds to the high level of its technical innovations," said Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen's Head of Design.
The Phideon will be offered with several TSI powertrain options. The flagship model, unveiled in Geneva, is powered by a 3.0-liter TSI V6 engine that produces 300 horsepower and 347 lb-ft. of torque. It also comes with the 4MOTION drive system.
The luxury sedan can also be powered by a 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder engine with a front-wheel drive system. Volkswagen also plans to introduce plug-in hybrid models in the future.
The five-seat sedan also comes with sporty and elegant interiors. The spacious cabin allows the Phideon to be used as a chauffeur-driven limousine. Some of the cabin's features include a dynamic dashboard, electronically adjustable seats with ventilation, heating and massage functions and a wrap-around ambient light strip. The sedan also comes with the MIB infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink compatibility.
Volkswagen has also equipped the sedan with innovative technologies including a head-up display, a camera-based night vision system and the area view four-camera system. Driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control, front assis, park assist, lane assist, side assist and light assist.
The 2017 Volkswagen Phideon will arrive in China during the third quarter of 2016.
