Xbox One games: Nutjitsu goes on sale for only $6.49 this Thursday

Nutjitsu video game

Arcade-style action game Nutjitsu by independent developer Ninjabee becomes available for the Xbox One on May 8, Thursday. It's the Xbox One's first sub-$10 game.

Nutjitsu was originally released last year on PC as a free but ad-supported game for Windows 8. The question now is why you've got to fork over $6.49 for the console version.

Ninjabee explained that the Windows 8 version allows users to purchase the "acoins" currency that is used to buy upgrades and consumables. The company said it was experimenting with a free-to-play model but found out it didn't like what it did to game balance and the user experience.

Ninjabee then decided to ditch the F2P approach and to allow users to get all the content with the base game purchase.

"It just ended up making more sense to monetize the old fashioned way than trying our hand at F2P on the console," said Ninjabee.

In Nutjitsu, you play as a squirrel out to retrieve sacred acorns treasured by your clan that were stolen by enemy foxes called the Kitsune samurai.

You have to sneak through beautifully hand-painted landscapes; avoid capture by the guards and snatch victory (and acorns) from your enemies. Retrieve precious acorns across unique levels as you dodge an ever-increasing number of villainous foxes.

The foxes can track your silent steps by scent. Keep ahead of them or vanish in a cloud of smoke. Grab as many mystical treasures as you can before disappearing into the night.

Nutjitsu is also the second game ever from Microsoft's new indie publishing program, ID@Xbox, to be released. The first was Strike Suit Zero released in April.
