Surface Phone rumors: Alleged Microsoft device expandable into a tablet?

(Microsoft)The follow-up to the Lumia 950 (shown), the rumored Surface Phone, is alleged to be an expandable device that can be converted into a tablet.

Although Microsoft has yet to confirm whether it really has a Surface Phone or not, the latest reports suggest that the alleged Microsoft device may be a foldable tablet that can be used as a phone.

There is no denying that the Surface Phone is one of the most-talked-about devices despite the fact that Microsoft has yet to confirm its existence. However, according to the latest reports, the device may not actually be a phone but may be a foldable tablet that can function as a smartphone.

Earlier, there were already reports claiming that the Surface Phone may actually not really be a phone but an innovative device that can provide the same functions that the current smartphones offer. True enough, it may really be the case as the patent that Microsoft has applied for leaked online recently, prompting tech pundits to believe that it is for the alleged Surface Phone.

Based on the said patent that was awarded to Microsoft only recently, the device will be a tablet-smartphone hybrid as it will be foldable/expandable to suit user needs. The leaked photos also show that the upcoming device will have two hinges and three foldable parts, making it possible for the user to convert the device into a tablet or a smartphone, depending on how it will be used at a moment.

While there is no way to find out whether the said patent is for the alleged Surface Phone, many tech pundits believe that it will be so. After all, months before the Surface Studio was launched in October last year, its patent also surfaced online and was eventually confirmed to be that of the all-in-one PC from Microsoft when the product was finally unveiled.

In the event that the Surface Phone is, indeed, a foldable/expandable device, then, it seems that it will be going head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, which is also rumored to carry the same technology.

Will the gadget fans be treated to a Surface Phone vs the Galaxy Note 8 showdown this year?

Those outside Microsoft and Samsung can only wait and see for now.
