'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers: Stars talk Mary Winchester's return

(Facebook/Supernatural)Jared Padalecki reveals that Sam was indeed shot by Lady Toni Bevell.

There are two things we know for certain as "Supernatural" heads to its 12th season. One, the show has a new time slot, and two, Sam was indeed shot by Lady Toni Bevell.

When The CW released its fall 2016 premiere dates, "Supernatural" fans quickly noticed one major change — their favorite show had been bumped to Thursday. The fantasy-horror TV series previously aired on Wednesdays with "Arrow." But when the fall season starts, fans will be watching Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester on Thursdays at 9 p.m., along with the heroes of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."

Aside from the new time slot, another thing that has been confirmed is that Sam was indeed shot by a member of the Men of Letters. Fans will recall that in the closing moments of the season 11 finale, a thoroughly depressed Sam returned to the bunker only to be confronted by Lady Toni Bevell (Elizabeth Blackmore). The Brit demanded that Sam come with her to answer for his and Dean's alleged crimes. But the younger Winchester refused, and believing that his brother was gone, he didn't seem too concerned with what Bevell would do. The episode ended with viewers hearing a gun go off.

Padalecki confirmed to TV Line that the bullet did hit Sam, although he doesn't know where yet. But it's all par for the course as far as the 33-year-old actor is concerned. After all, Sam and Dean had been shot, stabbed, beaten, tortured, died, and resurrected numerous times in the course of the show's 11 seasons. But what excites Padalecki is the idea that Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith) is back.

"My reaction as a fan of the show was, 'What a cool show to be a part of where we can do that and get away with it," Padalecki said, emphasizing that he was really stoked.

Ackles is also excited about the return of Sam and Dean's mom and told Access Hollywood that it is the biggest question now.

"What is she doing back? What's happening?," Ackles wondered. Unfortunately, he also said that he doesn't have any answers yet.

Spoilers might be a little thin on the ground now, but fans can expect to hear more about the next season of "Supernatural" when the cast makes its annual pilgrimage to the San Diego Comic-Con.

"Supernatural" season 12 returns to The CW on Oct. 13 at 9 p.m.
