'Star Wars: Episode 8' plot rumors: Leaked photo of new location surfaces

"Star Wars: Episode 8" has been surrounded by rumors ever since "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hit theaters in December 2015. And while details of the upcoming sequel remain tightly under wraps, a leaked photo may have just confirmed a new location set to debut in Episode 8.

(Facebook/starwarsmovies)"Star Wars: Episode 8" will premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.

According to Makingstarwars.net, second unit work for the film has been done in Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia. Filming took place in June 2016, but the photo only recently surfaced. It has been claimed that this supposed leaked photo is authentic, and that filming took place in the area for two days. There were also many lights used for the shoot, but main actors were not spotted at the location. However, locals were hired to stand as extras during filming.

It is important to note that this has not been confirmed by Disney nor Lucasfilm, so readers are advised to take this with a grain of salt.

Another popular rumor involves a certain cameo appearance from Tom Hardy. It can be recalled that Daniel Craig played a stormtrooper in "The Force Awakens," but he was only one of the many notable names who had a bit part in the film. When Hardy was asked if he was going to be a stormtrooper in the next film, the actor seemingly denied the claims, but he did not give an outright "no."

Apart from that, an ongoing plot theory states that Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker and Daisy Ridley's Rey are actually father and daughter. This stems from the fact that Rey has a strong connection with the Force. It was also revealed in the first film that her parentage is unknown. Director Rian Johnson has assured fans, though, that their relationship will be explored in Episode 8.

As of now, Episode 8 does not have a title yet, although Johnson has had one in mind since the first draft of the film. A trailer should be released soon enough, but, until then, fans will have to wait.

"Star Wars: Episode 8" is slated to premiere in theaters on Dec. 15.
