Pepsi may be a known soda brand but in China, it's also a phone option. The Asian country has it big with the said brand that, as of this week, there are now two Pepsi-themed phones out there, the latest one coming from a relatively new phone maker.

Following the footsteps of the Oppo N1 Pepsi edition, another unknown company in China has come out with a phone simply dubbed as the Pepsi Phone. It is a dead-ringer for Oppo's entry, especially as both have aluminium finishings and a 5.5-inch display. But the similarities don't end there; even under the hood, the phones are really identical.

The new Pepsi Phone is 7.7 mm thick and 158 grams heavy with the MediaTek MT6592 1.7GHz octa-core processor built-in. Buyers get a 16 GB internal storage and 2 GB of RAM. There's also that popular feature, the touch fingerprint sensor, that can be likened to the one in the old Huawei Mate 7. The out-of-the-box operating system is the Android 5.1, complete with a Pepsi theme.

Other similarities of the phone from Oppo N7 are the 13-megapixel f/2.0 rear camera and the 5-megapixel front-facing camera; the microSD expansion for up to 64 GB; dual SIM slots; and a 3000 mAh battery. It is currently available in three colors: blue, silver, and gold.

The phone is not a Pepsi phone per se, but rather a collaboration with the said soft drink brand and the Shenzhen Scooby Communications Equipment Co., Ltd. It has the standard version called P1 and the version with FDD-LTE support called P1s. It currently retails via the crowdfunding site JD, which is mostly displayed in Chinese.

According to FoneArena, there is an early bird offer that sells the phone at 499 yuan (around $78) but regular price is at 699 yuan (around $110). The price is only for the first 1,000 units. When that sells out, the company will put up sale for another 1,000 units but at a higher price of 999 yuan, then 1299 yuan for the next 1,000 and so on. Target earnings for the Pepsi Phone is three million yuan by Dec. 3.
