It was on October 2012 when the Nexus 10 tablet was unveiled, and there has been no release from Google on its next generation; and now the industry is paying attention to Nexus 10 2 rumors. Technology is a constant thing and OEMs or mobile device owners not making follow up versions of their models leave the industry wondering.

In 2013, Google did make a follow up version of its Nexus 4 smartphone, with the Nexus 5. Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 were noth revealed on Q4 2012. Others already think Nexus 10 is being left behind but wonder if 2014 has something in store for the 10-inch Google tablet.

OEM and Specs

Google only takes care of the design, development, marketing and support of its mobile devices, and have them manufactured by a third party. For a possible Nexus 10 2 tablet in 2014, the OEM candidates are Samsung, which made first Nexus 10; Asus, the maker of Nexus 10 models and HTC, the rumored most-likely OEM for the upcoming Nexus 8.

For the rumored specs, Nexus 10 2 is said to be powered by a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Andreno 330 or nVidia Tegra 4 processor and run on Android 4.4 KitKat. It is likely to sport a Super PLS 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 resolution 299 ppi Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen, 32 GB internal storage, 2 to 3GB RAM, non-removable Li-po 9500mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB, dual-band Wi-Fi and dual-side NFC. There will be two cameras: 8MP rear-facing and 2.1MP front-facing.

Price

The price of the upcoming Nexus 10 2 is still unclear until Google reveals it. The tech industry has made some estimates though. PC World's estimate it at £349, which is close to the current Nexus 10 that is available for £319.

Release Date

When Nexus 7 2.0 was released in July last year, President Sundar Pichai of Android and Chrome told Wall Street Journal reporter Amir Efrati that a new Nexus 10 can be expected "in the near future", with Samsung as the OEM. Efrati had this tweeted in his account on July 24. Efrati reportedly got the information from a reliable source though it has been almost a year now.

Now, there are rumors Nexus 10 2 will be further delayed, as HTC shall be manufacturing for Google the successor of the Nexus 7 tablet next quarter, rumored to be the Nexus 8. Nexus 8 is speculated to be not just be a successor for the Nexus 7, but a successor for the Nexus 10 as well.

The next Android version, the alleged Android 5.0 , is said to power Nexus 8. New versions of Android are usually released during Google's I/O event, which is scheduled for June 25-26 in San Francisco this year. Nexus 8 may also be powered by an Intel Bay Trail, which is set to release in the middle of this year. With all these significant components release schedules, it looks like Nexus 8 will be ready by the third quarter.

However, Russian blogger Elder Murtazin tweeted on January 27 that Nexus 10 will be discontinued, as Google will focus on Google Play Edition devices.
