'NCIS' season 14 spoilers, cast news: Actor Wilmer Valderrama cast as a series regular

(Facebook / NCIS)"NCIS" introduces a new main character in the upcoming 14th season.

A new character will be introduced in the upcoming season of "NCIS" and he will be played by actor Wilmer Valderrama. One of the show's main and original cast members made his exit in season 13's finale and viewers are speculating that Valderrama's character is season 14's Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly).

The announcement was made by CBS on June 16 describing Valderrama's character as grounded, dedicated, unpredictable, and charismatic loose cannon. He will enter the show as an NCIS field agent who was sent on a years-long deep cover assignment. His presence will surprise his colleagues, some of who thought he has already died.

Executive producer Gary Glasberg said, "Wilmer Valderrama will be able to flex his dramatic, physical, and comedic talents in this classic NCIS role." He added, "Fans are going to see him like they've never seen him before. This is going to be fun. We're thrilled he's coming aboard."

Weatherly has provided many of the comedic moments throughout his involvement on the show. Valderrama has some big shoes to fill, but while there can only be one DiNozzo for "NCIS," he has many acting moments to his credit. He was seen on shows such as "Grey's Anatomy," "That '70s Show," "To Whom It May Concern," "Larry Crowne," and "The Dry Land."

Weatherly's exit was known prior to last season's finale, and while fans are said that he will not be coming back for the next season, they are hoping to still see him guest on the show. DiNozzo was not killed in the series, but he chose to leave the task force in order to take care of his child whom he just met.

He fathered a child with Ziva who was played by actress Cote de Pablo who was a series regular from season 3 to season 11. Although her character was said to be dead in season 13, no mention of a body was made, which led to speculations that she may return to the series soon.

"NCIS" season 14's premiere is yet to be announced.
