MacBook Air 2016 rumors: Apple may be finished with its Air line
There have been several speculations surrounding the rumored MacBook Air 2016 since earlier this year, but some of these conjectures are rather contradictory. For instance, according to some reports, including an article from Macworld, speculations surrounding the supposed Retina display are unfounded. Instead, the Apple laptop will reportedly be equipped with a super light and thin hardware and a high-resolution display.
Furthermore, an 11-inch and a 13-inch variant are supposedly pegged for a 2016 release. With all other MacBook Air models having been released around spring time, rumors persist that the upcoming models would follow suit. However, according to Gospel Herald, the unveiling of the MacBook Air 2016 might come as soon as early December.
Still, according to several tech enthusiasts, Apple might not be developing another iteration of the MacBook Air after all. According to Jan Dawson, Chief Analyst at Jackdaw Research, it might not be long until the tech giant phases out the laptop line.
"This wasn't the MacBook Air, but instead leaped past the Air. The kept [the MacBook Air] around just as they do with older iPhones, but the MacBook is now in the same position as the newest iPhone. That makes me wonder if the Air will go away over time," said Dawson, as quoted by Macworld.
And it seems like Dawson is not the only one who is certain about the demise of the MacBook Air. According to Carolina Milanesi, chief of research and head of US Business for Kantar World Panel Comtech, the move toward mobility might be the reason why the laptop line would soon be obsolete.
Macworld quotes Milanesi as saying, "All [notebooks] need to be more mobile, so something like the Air doesn't need to be branched out anymore ... and it's to Apple's benefit not to have so many 'families' of Macs."
Meanwhile, other reports claim that the supposed 2016 MacBook Air might be the most powerful laptop among the Apple's current line up and it might be powered by the Skylake U-chipset. It is expected to be the as powerful as the latest MacBook Pro, and would be running on the latest Apple operating system El Capitan.
