'John Wick: Chapter 2' news: Legendary hitman returns

("John Wick: Chapter 2" official website)"John Wick: Chapter 2" will be released on Feb. 10, 2017.

Lionsgate is scheduled to release its new movie "John Wick: Chapter 2" in theaters on Feb. 10 through Summit Entertainment. In the action thriller, Keanu Reeves returns as John Wick, a legendary gunman who is compelled out of retirement by a former colleague who wants to take over a shadowy group of international assassins.

Now living a peaceful life while raising his newly acquired dog, Wick is forced to return to his old ways once again as he is bound by a blood oath to help his former associate. He travelled to Rome, Italy where he battles some of the toughest assassins in the world.

Like the original movie, the sequel is expected to feature many action-packed scenes. Director Chad Stahelski and scriptwriter Derek Kolstad have introduced new characters who can give Wick a good fight.

The sequel features several stunning set pieces like the hall-of-mirrors. According to Reeves, the set is a tribute by Stahelski to a classic film. "It's his homage to Bruce Lee at the end of 'Enter the Dragon.' The whole installation is a maze of mirrors where guys can pop out and disappear. It's very cool and a lot of fun to fight in," he told Empire.

The film also stars Laurence Fishburne as the ruthless crime boss named The Bowery King, Riccardo Scamarcio as the assassin named Santino, and Ruby Rose as the silent assassin, Ares. Ian McShane returns as Winston, the owner of Continental Hotel. Aly Mang plays Winston's personal assistant, while Thomas Sadoski plays Jimmy, a police officer and friend of Wick. Bridget Moynahan returns as Wick's late wife Helen, while John Leguizamo returns as Aurelio, owner of an upscale chop shop, and Lance Reddick returns as Charon, a concierge at the Continental Hotel.

"John Wick: Chapter 2" was edited by Evan Schiff and its cinematography was done by Dan Laustsen.
