HTC One M8 Might Reverse HTC's Red Figures for Q1 2014

HTC released an audited Q1 2014 results last week and seems to continue the trend of quarterly losses. The Taiwanese firm announced it pulled revenues of more than $1.92 billion in the quarter though it still amounted to net operating loss of around $64 million (before taxes).

HTC Corporation designs and produces handheld wireless telecommunications units or smartphones based on Android (Google) and Windows Mobile (Microsoft) operating systems. HTC is Microsoft's partner in hardware platform development. It was a contract electronics manufacturer originally, but it aggressively markets phone units under its own brand. Its first cell phone HTC Dream features the Android OS. Its other devices are Desire, Sensation, Rhyme and Explorer. Wireless communications carriers like T-Mobile USA market this Taiwanese firm's phones.

HTC posted for Q1 2014 unaudited results have figures which are worse than what it expected. It predicted a $1.12 to 1.18 billion revenue for this year's first quarter during its preceding quarter Q4 2013. However, the unaudited results point a revenue of $1.09 billion and after taxes, a net loss of $62 million. When compared to last year's Q1 2013 results, the company made $1.4 billion revenue by then, and a $2.5 million profit.

For this year however, the company has reversed the decreasing year-over-year revenue with its new flagship phone HTC One M8 with an increased figure of 2.2 percent. It expects a promising second quarter largely because the new flagship phone has commenced distribution into the market since March 25.

HTC struggled as a company in a seeming negligence in filling out mid-range and entry-level markets. The latter cost the company $1 billion while the former gave Samsung more room to spread its devices to the market at price points with no competition.
