'Game of Thrones' season 7 spoilers, news: Jim Broadbent teases his role as archmaester

"Harry Potter" actor Jim Broadbent has been cast in the upcoming season of HBO's critically acclaimed series "Game of Thrones." Recently, the actor teased a few details about his character.

Since his casting was revealed in August of last year, little has been said about the character's identity, aside from the significant role that he is going to portray this season. Regardless, fans of the series have been quick to share their theories about the character. And based on Broadbent's recent admission, it seems like a number of fans were right about it.

In an interview with Screencrush, Broadbent, who seemed hesitant at first to spill the details about the character, eventually revealed that he will be portraying a master, an archmaester to be specific. And as previously teased, it will be a pretty significant role indeed, as he is set to appear in five of the seven episodes this season. He shared, "I did five episodes. I did sort of one major scene in each episode."

Rumors are rife that Broadbent will be portraying a character named Maester Marwyn, who in particular will be joining John Bradley-West's Samwell Tarly at the Citadell. The actor did not confirm the character's name, but he did admit that he shares scenes with Tarly.

The publication points out that in George R.R. Martin's "A Feast for Crows," Marwyn is depicted as a well-traveled man, who is well-versed in the secrets of the Seven Kingdoms, as well as its magic. In the book, Samwell confides to Marwyn about everything that he knows about what lies beyond the wall, including the White Walkers. Perhaps the man can help Samwell and the rest of the Kingdom of Men prepare for the impending battle against the undead.

HBO has yet to set a release date for "Game of Thrones" season 7, but it is expected to premiere in the summer. Liam Cunningham, however, recently suggested that the series could debut this July.

More updates should roll out soon.
