'Fear the Walking Dead' news, spoilers: 'Buffy' alumna is new cast member

(Facebook/FearTWD)"Fear the Walking Dead" season 3 will premiere in 2017.

"Fear the Walking Dead" has a new cast member, and she is no stranger to the undead.

TVLine revealed that Emma Caulfield, who is known for playing Anya, a vengeance demon who joined the good guys when she fell in love with one of them on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," will serve as a guest star on the zombie show.

Even though the casting was confirmed by AMC, no news has been disclosed yet about her role and length of engagement with "Fear of the Walking Dead." However, speculations are rife that she will play a bad guy, ever since executive producer and writer Dave Erickson revealed that the main villain of the upcoming season is a female.

Danay Garcia, who plays Luciana, had this to say about the female villain in an interview with ComicBook.com: "I'm really looking forward to it, because you know what? I honestly think that every time somebody makes somebody evil, the really truth is that they are really not that evil."

She continued, "They just have their reasons, that they're making decisions based on their own issues. If you really go down — deep, deep, deep down — they're people that are just doing the best they can."

The revelations of Erickson and Garcia have led to the widespread speculation that Caulfield will be the leader of the militia that stopped Nick and Luciana from crossing the border at the finale of season 2.

Garcia confirmed to ComicBook.com that she gets shot, but survives. However, she hints that the survivors will now have to worry not just about the walkers, but the Americans as well.

Aside from "Buffy," Caulfield also had a short role on "Once Upon a Time" as the Blind Witch.

AMC has not made any announcements yet when season 3 of "Fear the Walking Dead" will premiere. The cast and crew are currently shooting the episodes in Baja.
