2016 BMW Alpina B5 Biturbo news: 600-horsepower model takes inspiration from BMW M5

(BMW / Alpina)

Alpina has created the 2016 B5 Biturbo based on the BMW M5. Alpina is a German automobile manufacturer known for producing their own vehicles based on BMW-released vehicles. The company has been operational since 1965.

To create their cars, Alpina collaborates closely with BMW. Cars are shipped back and forth from Alpina to BMW's production lines for installation of necessary parts. The Alpina B5 Biturbo uses the same chassis as the BMW 5 Series. As Alpina puts the finishing touches on its cars, it usually integrates luxurious and styling enhancements.

The standard BMW M5 is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 575 horsepower and 500 lb-ft torque. For the 2016 BMW Alpina B5 Biturbo, power outputs are increased to 600 horsepower and 591 lb-ft of torque. The Alpina engine is also mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. As a result, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. The car can also attain a top speed of 204 mph.

The 2016 BMW Alpina B5 Biturbo also comes standard with a sports suspension, electronically adjustable dampers, limited slip differential and active roll stabilization. Inside, the seats come with Merino leather upholstery and the interiors come in piano black.

The Alpina B5 Biturbo may also come with an optional lightweight titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic. This will result in a 37-pound weight loss. There is also an option to install larger and higher-performance fixed-caliper brakes.

The 2016 BMW Alpina B5 Biturbo is offered in two trims. The Saloon comes as a four-door sedan while the Touring comes as a stationwagon.

Alpina will also be releasing a special Edition 50 of the B5 Biturbo to celebrate its 50th anniversary. There will only be 100 models produced worldwide. Aside from the performance upgrades, the Edition 50 model will feature a special wood piano lacquer interior trim with Edition 50 badging and Alpina emblems bearing the year 1965-2015.

The 2016 BMW Alpina B5 Biturbo is priced at $115,200 for the sedan and $118,700 for the Touring edition. For the special Edition 50 model, the Saloon is priced at $121,800 and the Touring is priced at $125,500.
