'Diablo 4' release rumors: Will the sequel be announced soon or will fans get something else?

(Battle Net)Will the follow-up to 'Diablo 3' be officially announced later this year?

Rumors about "Diablo 4" potentially being announced soon have been gaining steam lately, with fans even pointing to certain things as possible pieces of evidence hinting at the sequel's impending arrival.

Some fans have pointed to recent job openings over at Blizzard as potential clues that could be indicators of the sequel's imminent announcement.

A quick perusal of Blizzard's Careers page reveals that the developer is looking to hire new employees to fill various positions related to an "unannounced project" with ties to the "Diablo" franchise.

As per the Careers page, Blizzard is currently searching for a new animator, senior animator, senior character artist, senior concept artist, senior VFX artist, as well as a game director for their "unannounced project."

Given how many people Blizzard is looking to hire for their "unannounced project," it seems like whatever this undertaking will be is going to be quite significant.

While fans may want to believe that "Diablo 4" is the "unannounced project" that's currently in the works, there remains a chance that it could be something else entirely.

Recently, Twinfinite was able to point out a clue that could be hinting at what else Blizzard may have on deck if the "unannounced project" does not turn out to be the eagerly anticipated sequel.

As the website noted, a new image that was sent along with invitations for this year's BlizzCon contained a depiction of Diablo as he appeared in "Diablo 2." The website then mentions that the curious inclusion of the image could be a clue that Blizzard is planning to release a high-definition remake of "Diablo 2."

It's not a bad guess at all, and if Blizzard really does go all-in with releasing a remake that also comes packed with some new additions, then fans may forget about the lack of a sequel for the next few months or even years.

In any case, it does seem as though Blizzard is working on something big related to the "Diablo" franchise, though whether it's "Diablo 4" or a "Diablo 2" remake is just something that fans will have to find out later on.
